Time Capsule·Physical Object Performance
Art 2021-04-22 1
This is an encounter related to time, exploring multiple possibilities of individual life from various dimensions. 'Paint installation' is an art related to the body and time. The spatial-temporal field collides, perceiving the material's character, emotion and temperature through the body, using the body to convey the responses and energy of this material world, exploring the boundaries between the present and the future.
When the body encounters installations and spaces, it breaks conventional thinking; restores the form of objects; reconstructs parallel spaces, achieving deeper communication between the body and installations, the body and spaces, and spaces and installations. The collaboration between the body and installations will allow us to reinterpret the meaning of space in a completely new way.
Restoration: Following the "Object Performance M Series" by lacquer installation artist Mr Sun Wenjia, six dancers trace M2's Minjiang Journey, beginning from the source of the Minjiang River in Fujian to restore the most original marks of this river region. In the tunnel of the time capsule, we, together with the dancers and the installation, start to trace back our own unique original memories in the whirlpool of the time tunnel.
Breaking: The body and the installation collectively mediate the concept of 'collaboration'. By coordinating the body with the installation, conventional perceptions and thinking patterns are disrupted. The artist creates works that are extensions of themselves, yet these extensions have become independent entities, perceptive and warm. When dancers collide with the installation, the resulting movements, carrying, and rotations intertwine seamlessly rather than contradicting, creating intricate emotional sensations in the space. Is it collapse? Is it a scream? Is it struggle? Is it spasm? It is body with object, object with performance; binding and placement; yet the only constant is the mark of lacquer; time deposits it, and in a completely new way that breaks convention, it returns once more, combined with the body and the installation.
Reconstruction: The reorganised body and apparatus, the weary yet steady sense of urgency, are traces of time passing, recreating a restored time capsule, reconstructing the M series and the power structure of the limbs; humans as objects, objects as space, space as rivers, lakes and seas, once again following the 'M series of object performance', repeating; cycling; mutually superimposing and stacking; going round in circles; shared acceptance; giving and supporting, reconstructing the trinity of 'Object Performance M to the power'.
