This series of works uses natural lacquer as the main medium of artistic creation, trying to excavate the ontological language of lacquer, fully displaying and using its properties of sealing and preservation, and retaining the artist's individual consciousness in the form of this time capsule.  His works provide a new way for us to appreciate the artistic expression of Chinese lacquer.

He chose lacquer as his creative medium, with his works presenting a sense of Eastern mystique and the form of contemporary sculptural installations, making him unique among young artists. Highly sensitive to art and creation, he is adept at combining the nuances of contemporary abstract art with historical narratives, integrating the spirit and material of his works into one.

Sun Wenjia's Derivation series hides the overlapping significance of geological time and Anthropocene time. Based on geological time (fossils) and human time (lacquer, biomimetic mimicry), it constructs contemporary cultural strata. In a 'non-poetic' post-human era, by reflecting on the positioning of subjectivity, it seeks to remove 'anthropocentrism', and the works present digitality and biolikeness, blurring the boundaries between human traces and nature.

His lacquer installation series "Evolution of Things" attempts to explore the temporal evolution of individual creation within the course of history from the perspective of human-made objects, and to perceive the traces of individual artistic creation left in the post-industrial and intelligent eras, that is, the shape of time. This series uses natural lacquer as the primary medium for artistic creation, seeking to explore the intrinsic language of lacquer, fully displaying and utilising its properties of preservation and sealing, thus capturing the artist's individual consciousness in the form of a time capsule. His works offer a completely new way to appreciate the artistic expression of Chinese lacquer.
